Crazy elevator lady - TRUE STORY!!!

GET THIS -

So today I went downstairs to get my unfortunate and usual late lunch around 2:15pm - a turkey and ham sandwich. I got back on the elevator, of which there are 8 by the way - and I'm on the 9th floor and didn't want to pass out my taking the stairs - and also 3-4 other women get on the same elevator. As the doors start to close, this other woman comes rushing down the hall to the elevator, and it is clear she wants on. Now, if I were her on this occasion, I would have simply waited for the next elevator, which, I actually prefer, because not only can you skip the "awkward elevator silence", but you also get to the 9th floor quicker when you aren't stopping on every dang floor! I decided to ride this elevator today because I knew one of the ladies and thought we could chit-chat on the ride up (doesn't THAT sounds like the excitement of my afternoon!!) Okay, so this woman, who we'll call the "thin crazy elevator lady" (since I have no clue what her other name is) is walking extremely fast, practically running to catch our elevator, which already has 5 (not so thin) ladies in it, AND whose doors are rapidly closing. The lady I know, who is a co-worker in another functional organization, is standing closest to the button-panel, so she responds quickly (although it seemed like slow motion, I'm tellin' you) and pushes the "open" button with her right hand and then reaches to stick her left hand in the narrow open space still showing between the two doors. Meanwhile, the thin crazy elevator lady realizes that there is no hope left getting on our elevator, so she walks towards the button and [i think!] presses it. Amazingly, the doors open up again. We were all thinking it wasn't going to open, and in fact, I think I made some funny gasping noise that I seem to make quite often when something is surprising to me (those of you who know this sound feel free to tell me when I use it!) as the doors re-opened. Ok, so now the thin crazy elevator woman steps in the elevator, presses her floor button, turns to the front of the elevator, and the doors close, peacefully. Thus begins the awkward elevator silence period, which, being me, I broke first by asking my co-worker how her day was going. On any usual day of awkward elevator silence, anyone would have probably responded "oh great - thanks!", or "finally got a break from all the mundane work", or "I just stepped out for a pedicure - how are you?". My co-worker, however, said nothing, and I thought it was a bit strange, but thought perhaps she didn't want to talk with other people on the elevator. As I'm thinking "why doesn't anyone want to talk to me today!?!? - j/k", the door opened, and the thin crazy elevator lady got off. The doors closed behind her and THEN my co-worker was quite vocal: "I almost broke a nail for THAT? She looks healthy to me - she can take the stairs! GET THIS - the thin crazy elevator lady - yep, you guessed it - got off on the SECOND floor! Hello! We were all busting up laughing - just replaying what had happened in the last (probably 8-10 seconds) and gabbing about how ridiculous some people are!! At least it made a good blog story!!! :)

It probably took her more energy and stress to get on the elevator than taking the stairs :) You never know.
