Update on my grandma
My grandmother is out of the hospital - thank goodness. Her second colon cancer surgrey was June 4. She was in the hostipal for 9 days - being fed through an IV. In grandma's words, the nurses were only feeding her "water and ice cubes". We tried to explain the ice was to keep her mouth moistened, but I don't think it sank in. That dang cancer has taken over a foot of colon - Grandma has now had her colon shortened by 14 inches. That's a lot of colon to have removed. The cancer has also taken away a lot fo grandma's weight. She has lost over 20 pounds recently. The cancer has also taken grandma away from her home in San Jose. She is staying with my Aunt and Uncle in Fresno during this time and may be moving to Fresno permanently. So the cancer has taken a lot away from grandma. What the cancer doesn't realize is that it can take away all these things, but it can't take away everything. The cancer can't take away Grandma's laugh. Her chuckle is the first thing I hear as she picks up the phone when I call, the inspiration to keep me calm while I talk to her, and the reassurance that when I hang up the phone, Grandma will remain strong through this ordeal. The cancer can't take away Grandma's love. Grandma has so much love in her heart for her family - she loves me so much that she prays for me every day. She is the only person I know that prays for me everyday. That cancer can't take away Grandma's soul either. Grandma's soul already belongs to God. She gave it to God many many years away and has never taken it back. Grandma made the decision to place her faith in Christ despite hard times and trust that the Lord would watch over her and her family. He has. I would love for God to restore her health and then freeze the age of my Grandma forever so I won't ever have to go through the pain of loosing her. Afterall, God can work miracles, can't He? I realize my desire is selfish and not likely to happen, but I do believe that God has gifted my grandma with laughter and love and won't take those away from her until the day she goes to heaven to see Him in His glory. It's hard for me to know how much pain my grandma has been through. That pain, however, can't compare to the pain God suffered by giving up his only son to die for me.....and Grandma.....and my family......and my friends.....and YOU. I'll never forget what God has done in my life and how Grandmas has had such a big influence on my Christian walk with Him.
