Grandma's Surgery
My grandma (mom's mom) had surgery this afternoon. Thank goodness that I was able to interupt my busy day at work to call her before she headed to the hospital. I love my grandma dearly - she has helped shape me into the woman I am today merely from the life she has lived. I have probably learned more from my Grandma then any other family member.
My grandma is more than a "going to grandma's for the holiday" - type of grandma. Grandma to me means character and virtue - of which my grandma has the highest and has taught me to strive for the same. My grandma means love for Christ - which she has always reaffirmed to me in the most importnat love of all in my life. Grandma to me means safety, comfort and rest - hugs from Grandma never grow old. Grandma to me means acceptance and sincerity - I can spill my life to her without being judged or graded. Grandma to me means fun - whether it's playing rummikub, watching a TV show, or just talking. Grandma to me means that when Grandma is gone someday, I will feel a void in my heart that only the greatest love of my life can fill; and I will feel a warm happiness in my soul knowing where Grandma is - waiting for me to join her to continue our relationship for eternity.
Today is not that day, for which I'm glad. Today I prayed that Grandma would be protected by God's mighty hand and by the steady hands of the surgeon. Today, God listened to my prayer and the prayers of many others whose lives have been touched by Grandma. Today, God brought my Grandma safely out of surgery to recovery and observation. And today, I am grateful for my Grandma's life and for my own life, as each exist only due to that mighty saving hand of God.
